This quote came to me the other day, seemingly out of nowhere. Like a lightning strike of inspiration. Because, like I’m guessing is true for most of you, I’m seriously ready to start living a life I love. Not that I don’t already love many, many things about my life, just like I’m sure you love plenty about yours. It’s just, well, we all want to grow, right? Vision boards are a thing for a reason. If we’re not growing and striving and looking ahead, we’re existing, not living.
I want to live. I’m guessing you do, too.
So, what do we as humans usually do when we’re hankering for growth or change? I’ll tell you what we do: we think about it. We consider it and roll it around in our heads and maybe even think of ways we can start working toward some magical rebirth. But that’s usually where it stops, isn’t it? Lots of thinking and little (or no) doing.
We wait for things to be perfect. We wait for signs. We wait for someone to give us permission. We wait for things to line up. We wait for a person or circumstance to give us a shove. We wait and we wait and we wait, and all the while time passes and we get older, but we’re no closer to living our dream lives.
It’s time to change that.
Because, honestly people, it really is simple. In order to live the life of our dreams, we really do need to start living the life of our dreams.
Now, I’m not saying you should run out and buy a yacht because doing so will cause a million dollars to instantly drop into your bank account. But what I am saying is that momentum builds on itself, and it has to start somewhere. Do high-vibe things and activities, and watch the goodness multiply.
How do you do this? Well, you gotta take that first step. Stop the thinking and start the doing!
On my vision board, I have a graphic that says, “Daily yoga.” (See? Here's photographic proof.)
See, I adore yoga and would love for my days to be structured such that I have time to do at least 30 minutes of yoga each day.
However . . .
Every day for the last six months, I’ve looked at my vision board. Every day for the last six months I’ve seen “Daily yoga.” And five out of seven days per week (at least), I . . . DIDN’T DO YOGA.
Whyyyyyy?! Why didn’t I do yoga?
Because I’m super busy, that’s why. I can’t find the time. I have a million other things I need to do first, and everyone needs me. Taking care of me comes last. (Um, can you relate?)
But, wait! It says right there on my vision board that, as part of my ideal life, I’ll do yoga daily. It doesn’t say I’ll wait on everybody else first or scroll through Instagram or consider doing yoga. It says I’ll actually do yoga. Daily.
So, guess what? After seeing the insanity of my “reasons” (aka excuses) for not doing yoga, a light turned on! My eureka moment happened! Annnnd, as of two weeks ago, I. Started. Doing. Yoga.
Yes, that’s right, ladies and germs. I started the process of living a life I love. Just like that! Because I took ACTION!
And it’s snowballed.
Now, I’m consciously working on other things on my vision board. And other areas of my life are falling into place without me even trying. I’m vibing high because I’m taking inspired action based on how I view the life of my dreams and the Universe is like, “Hey! Go you! Here’s more good stuff. And more! Let’s keep the party rolling!”
Freaking SIMPLE. It takes conscious effort, but it’s SIMPLE. And magical!
Y’all, you gotta try this. Take one thing you have on your vision board (or would add to your vision board if you were to make one), and take steps to work toward it. It’s not enough to think about it. Or wish for it. Or ask God or the Universe for it. Those are all important steps, but you need to hold up your end of the deal too.
Take action and watch the magic unfold.
